Mortal Battle was very similar to any number of Hong Kong action films except that it took place in modern times. It was the story of a fortune hidden in the statue of a gold Buddha. The money was being sent from China to a spy network in Hong Kong. Three men learn of the treasure and move to intercept the delivery of the money–each for their won reasons and wind up being comsumed by betrayal and their own greed. This style of movie was very popular in Korea in the 70s and Park’s film was praised for its large scale and its ‘reality action’. Park continued to make actions films and was considered to be a representative director of the genre.

China directs to bring in ten million dollars hidden in a Buddhist statue to organize a spy network in Hong-Kong. After several years, when they are released from the prison, they look for that statue with eager eyes. With different intention, crises, and betrayal, three men have difficulties in finding the statue. At last, Paeing gets it but is killed by Chinese spies with Shin Ta Ro's betrayal. In a fury, Han Dong-Wuk traces Shin Ta Ro and gains a victory over him, but the statue has already melted in the melting furnace at the refinery.

Reste donc à savoir si c'est le résumé de la jaquette qui est bidon mais le film correspond bien à cette histoire de statue de Bouddah ou bien s'il s'agit d'un film totalement différent.
